Designed by award-winning architect Sir David Chipperfield with technical leadership from HOK, the East Building opened to the public on June 29, 2013. The new building improves the visitor experience through extensive new galleries, expanded public amenities, a 300-space below-grade parking garage, and a new restaurant overlooking Art Hill in Forest Park.

The more than $160 million raised through the Campaign for the Saint Louis Art Museum, the most successful for a cultural institution in St. Louis history, was earmarked for the expansion project, with approximately $130 million for construction and more than $30 million dedicated to the Museum’s endowment to help fund the increased operating costs associated with the expansion.
