New Scene on View!

Scene 14 – Fort Rosalie; Extermination of the French in 1729; Grand Battle Scene; Mode of Scalping

The Saint Louis Art Museum conservators have moved on to Scene 14: Fort Rosalie; Extermination of the French in 1729; Grand Battle Scene; Mode of Scalping. It depicts a sensationalized version of a real historical event, the 1729 attack by Natchez Native Americans against French soldiers stationed at Fort Rosalie, Mississippi.

This frenetic, brightly-colored scene has suffered relatively little damage, and will only be on view for a few days. The Museum will be open July 4 until 5:00 pm, so if you’d like to enjoy the exhibition (and escape the heat!) come on in!
