18th Century
Galleries 202–204
The reinstallation of 18th Century European Art is divided into four themes.
The Grand Tour relates to the visits made by educated northern Europeans to Italy as a means of learning about the ancient world as well as the Renaissance. Art of the Court in the 18th Century features portraits of nobility as well as canvases that appealed to their refined tastes.
Gallery 203 contains objects that speak to the fashions and domestic practices of 18th Century Europeans. And Gallery 204 is devoted to religious art and portraits of clerics.
The reinstallation has been overseen by Judith Mann, curator of European art to 1800.
