Avila Wardlaw, PhD
Co-Founder, National Alliance of African and African American Art Support Groups
Alvia J. Wardlaw spent twenty-two years at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston developing numerous award-winning and original exhibitions, adding major works of art to the permanent collection, and creating significant signature events for Five A, such as its Annual Lecture Series. Dr. Wardlaw is the co-founder of the National Alliance of African and African American Art Support Groups and is a member of the Scholarly Advisory Committee for the National Museum of African American History and Culture at the Smithsonian Institution. She continues to serve as director/curator of the University Museum at Texas Southern University, and she is currently collaborating with the National Museum and House of Culture in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, to create an exhibition on the ancient arts of East Africa.
