Rembrandt Master Etchings from St. Louis Collections

$24.95

Rembrandt's prints have a level of beauty and emotional power that continues to surprise even the most experienced connoisseurs of the graphic arts. His command of the print medium helped him to represent "the greatest and most natural emotion" in his art, a goal that he himself described in 1639. The influence of Rembrandt's prints on countless generations and his brilliant approach to technique assure his position as the most versatile, innovative, and influential Dutch artist of the 17th century. Rembrandt made more than 290 copperplates between 1626 and 1665 and printed many impressions from each. He imbued them with something of his individuality, and he achieved new levels of excellence in the art of intaglio, which includes the techniques of etching, engraving, and drypoint. Rembrandt used all three, in combination and separately, to create images of great technical mastery.
