A NEW VIEW: AFRICAN ART

The Saint Louis Art Museum's African collection is focused primarily on the art of western Africa; therefore a thematic installation is the most effective way of displaying the collection. The strength of such a thematic presentation is that it illustrates the role of seemingly exotic objects in the lives of Africans and presents a means of showing the similarities between the concerns in life of African peoples and those of our own society.
