SUMMARY:Art Speaks: Elizabeth Catlett\, an American Artist in Mexico
DESCRIPTION:Elizabeth Catlett was an artist\, advocate\, and teacher whose career spanned over 60 years. Her work made visible Black and Indigenous women that are often underrepresented in art. Learn more about Elizabeth Catlett and the influence of Mexican art and artists\, and the African American experiences on her work. This talk by Delyn Stephenson\, the 2021–2022 Romare Bearden Graduate Fellow\, will feature two of Catlett’s artworks from the Saint Louis Art Museum’s collection\, Sharecropper and Seated Woman. \nThis virtual program will take place via Zoom and will include opportunities for participants to ask questions with the Q&A feature. Attendees’ mics and cameras will not be activated. This event will have automated closed captions. \nAttendees must register to receive the Zoom link. Capacity for the live program is limited. \nA closed-captioned recording of the program will become available on the Museum’s YouTube channel and website in the weeks following.
