SUMMARY:Art Speaks: Uncovering the Life of Artist Simhah Viterbo
DESCRIPTION:With Genevieve Cortinovis\, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Associate Curator of Decorative Arts and Design \nCentering around the current Saint Louis Art Museum exhibition Signed in Silk: Introducing a Sacred Jewish Textile\, this talk will show how interdisciplinary research in the fields of decorative arts and economic\, political\, and religious history helped uncover and illuminate the rich material world of a young woman artist living in Ancona’s Jewish ghetto in the middle of the 18th century. \nThis virtual program will take place via Zoom and will include opportunities for participants to ask questions with the Q&A feature. Attendees’ mics and cameras will not be activated. This event will have automated closed captions through Zoom. \nAttendees must register to receive the Zoom link. Capacity for the live program is limited. \nA closed-captioned recording of the program will be available on the Museum’s YouTube channel in the weeks following.
