SUMMARY:Common Threads in Korean and Nigerian Textiles
DESCRIPTION:As part of the annual Gateway Korea Foundation’s Dano Festival event\, SLAM and GKF will co-present the lecture “Power to the Women: Art of Korean Embroidery” by Sooa Im McCormick\, curator of Korean art at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Following the lecture\, there will be a preview of the Museum’s next exhibition of global textiles\, Aso Oke: Prestige Cloth from Nigeria by Shaka K. Myrick\, the 2021-2023 Romare Bearden Graduate Museum Fellow and co-curator of the exhibition. \nThe festival also will include an opportunity to visit Gallery 227 to view Korean artworks with a docent. This program is presented in partnership with the Gateway Korea Foundation and it is supported by a grant awarded to the Gateway Korea Foundation from the Missouri Humanities and with support from the Missouri Humanities Trust Fund. \nPlease see event schedule below.
