Join us on the opening day of Paul Gauguin: The Art of Invention.This lecture considers the broad range of Gauguin’s artistic production, from his engagement with Impressionist style and subjects, to his radical experimentation in ceramics, to his innovative art produced in Tahiti for a French audience. His complementary work as a writer will also be addressed, focusing on an important manuscript in the Museum’s collection that he wrote while in Polynesia on the topic of global religion and modern society.
Event Update: Due to unexpected circumstances, Elizabeth C. Childs is no longer able to present. The lecture will be delivered by Simon Kelly, curator of the exhibition and curator and head of department of modern and contemporary art, Saint Louis Art Museum.
