SUMMARY:Global Threads: How Indian Chintz Forever Changed Fashion and the World
DESCRIPTION:With Sarah Fee\, Senior Curator of Global Fashion & Textiles\, Royal Ontario Museum \nAs no other cloth in history\, the painted and printed cottons of India—known today as Indian chintz—changed the fashion\, economies\, and relations of people around the globe. Join Sarah Fee to learn why\, for thousands of years\, India “dressed the world” with its exuberant painted and printed cotton cloth. Delving deeper into pieces featured in the exhibition Global Threads: The Art and Fashion of Indian Chintz\, she will explore how from the 18th century Indian chintz sparked the Industrial Revolution and intensified cotton production in the US\, and how today artists and fashion designers in India are again revitalizing this ancient textile art. \nThis program will be offered in person at the Museum and will also be livestreamed.
