Friends of African American Art members are invited to enjoy a new documentary film featuring contemporary artist Helen LaFrance. Born in Kentucky in 1919, she is a self-taught artist represented in many notable public and private collections. She works in a variety of media, creating woodcarvings, quilts, and dolls, but she is best known for her memory paintings—recollections of her life that suggest a common experience and strike an emotional chord with viewers. The film’s producer, Bruce Shelton, will be present to share this special story with us.
Registration is required. RSVP before October 14 to 314.655.5390 or email@example.com.
Collectors Circle programs at the Saint Louis Art Museum are presented by the Betsy and Thomas Patterson Foundation.
