SUMMARY:If It Wasn’t for the Women: Hair Sculpting the Culture
DESCRIPTION:Panel moderated by Shaka Myrick\, the inaugural two-year Romare Bearden Graduate Museum Fellow\, with artists Summer Brooks\, Jada Patterson\, and Joann Quiñones \nJoin the Saint Louis Art Museum for our annual celebration of women of color in the arts. This year’s program explores the history of African American and Afro-Latina hair in contemporary art and Black culture. Hear from panelists about how this history informs their sculptural work. \nThis virtual program will take place via Zoom and will include opportunities for participants to ask questions with the Q&A feature. Attendees’ mics and cameras will not be activated. This event will have automated closed captions. \nAttendees must register to receive the Zoom link. Capacity for the live program is limited. \nA closed-captioned recording of the program will be available on the Museum’s YouTube channel and website in the weeks following. \nThis program is supported by the Mary Strauss Women in the Arts Endowment.
