Contemporary Art Society Members are invited to enjoy a lecture by Sky Hopinka (Ho-Chunk/Pechanga and American), an artist and filmmaker whose film Fainting Spells is the latest installment in the Museum’s New Media Series, opening in Gallery 301 on January 24. Hopinka’s work focuses on indigenous languages and histories, especially exploring how they function in the present, deftly weaving culturally specific knowledge with the experiences of the artist’s generation. His videos are poetic examinations of personal ideas of homeland, often combining cinematic footage of the land with spoken or written Native American words and stories.
Registration is required. RSVP before February 10 to 314.655.5390 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Collectors Circle programs at the Saint Louis Art Museum are presented by the Betsy and Thomas Patterson Foundation.
