DESCRIPTION:This lecture is sold out. All Members will receive the video recording of this lecture via email later this summer. \nChase away the winter blues with an inspiring evening of American Impressionism\, led by Amy Torbert\, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Associate Curator of American Art. \nTake a closer look at four captivating landscapes from the Museum’s collection. Torbert will explore the luminous works The Rainbow’s Source by John Henry Twachtman and Woman Standing near a Pond by Edward Mitchell Bannister—one of the first African American artists to gain national recognition—alongside the ever-popular The Plaza after the Rain by Paul Cornoyer. She will also introduce a recent addition to the collection: Edge of the Forest\, a radiant landscape by Charlotte Buell Coman\, a pioneering artist whose career spanned nearly five decades.
