DESCRIPTION:A rare opportunity! In 2023 the Museum proudly acquired Irawo II\, a striking and powerful piece by Nigerian-born artist Wole Lagunju. This painting\, depicting Irawo\, a revered Yoruba ruler\, explores of the intersection of royalty\, nature\, and spirituality\, further enriched by its detailed symbolism and cultural depth. \nUsing Irawo II as a starting point\, artist Wole Lagunju and Curator Simon Kelly will discuss Wole’s innovative art\, which is deeply rooted in Yoruba traditions. This event is a unique opportunity to hear directly from the artist about his artistic journey and the way his work reflects cultural history and identity. \nArrive anytime after 5:15 pm to view Irawo II in Gallery 248.
