SUMMARY:Teacher Workshop: Artistic Journeys and Critical Histories\, Exploring Local and National Contexts with Native American Art of the 20th Century: The William P. Healey Collection
DESCRIPTION:In this teacher workshop\, participants will explore the exhibition Native American Art of the 20th Century: The William P. Healey Collection with Alex Brier Marr\, associate curator for Native American art\, and Galen Earl Gritts (Cherokee). As part of the workshop\, Gritts will share memories and stories from his father’s experience working with many of the exhibition’s artists\, speak on St. Louis Indigenous histories\, and discuss broader connections to US history. Throughout the workshop\, teachers will learn more about modern and contemporary Indigenous artists and brainstorm curricular possibilities\, as well as classroom connections. \nA boxed meal and materials will be provided. \nCurrent and pre-service educators are invited to enroll. Enrollment is free and on a first-come\, first-served basis. Space is limited\, and enrollment requests are considered with regard to equitable school and/or school district representation. \nPlease contact teacherprograms@slam.org with any questions.
