- 1945
Arnold Seligman, Rey & Co., New York, NY
1945 -
Saint Louis Art Museum, purchased from Arnold Seligman, Rey & Co. [2]
Notes:
[1] According to a 1910 publication, the object was in Morgan's collection by this time [Comte de Chavagnac, "Catalogue des porcelaines francaises de M. J. Pierpont Morgan," Paris, 1910, cat. no. 69].
[2] The piece was in auction at the sale of the Morgan collection ["Furniture and Objects of Art, Property from the Estate of the late J. P. Morgan," Parke-Bernet Galleries, Inc., New York, NY, January 6-8, 1944, lot no. 483]. The catalogue does not indicate who purchased the object.
[3] Invoice from Arnold Seligmann, Rey, & Co. dated January 22, 1945 [SLAM document files]. It seems likely that the object was purchased at the 1944 sale of the Morgan collection (see note [2]), but the invoice does not mention the circumstances in which Seligmann acquired the work. Minutes of the Administrative Board of Control of the City Art Museum, January 4, 1945.
