Collection Guide

This Collection Guide highlights objects and images in the collection that depict animals. We invited guest experts to share their knowledge and experiences with animals to broaden our understanding of animal behavior and why artists from different parts of the world would choose to represent particular animals. This guide is intended for visitors of all ages.

I’m delighted to welcome you to the Collection Guides, a self-directed experience focusing on selected works of art across the Museum’s collection through multiple lenses. Collection Guides offer a diverse group of voices, narratives, and creative responses to works of art from around the world that capture life’s beauty and joy, struggles and triumphs, through varied lived experiences and perspectives.

You may notice some works of art featured in this guide are not on view in the galleries. The Museum’s collection of works on paper is open to individuals and small groups by appointment in the Print Study Room. See the Museum’s website for details. Each Collection Guide track is unique, and I encourage you to experience them in any order you like. Whether you’re listening from home or in the Museum galleries, I hope you enjoy the Animals in Art Collection Guide.
