NOTES
This vessel depicts a figure adorned with maize iconography. The chest medallion may represent a corn field. The small bracket shapes in the medallion’s corners represent maize plants. Similar forms can be seen flanking the keystone figure in the tiles shown above. The fifth, slightly larger bracket at the bottom of the medallion may symbolize the maize seed germinating under the earth. The precisely rendered lines of the figure’s headdress likely refer to the neatly ordered rows of the cornfield.
