Notes:
[1] This sculpture was in the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair, and presented by the Fair Committee as a gift to Halsey C. Ives, according to a testimonial statement on World's Fair St. Louis letterhead dated December 5, 1904, found crumpled in the base of the sculpture upon the museum's acquisition of the work [SLAM document files]. The sculpture remained in the Ives family until it was presented as a gift by Peggy Ives Cole in 1981. It had been on long term loan to the Museum from Peggy Ives Cole since 1973 [loan forms; letter dated July 23, 1980 from Mrs. Cole notifying the Museum of her gift, SLAM document files].
