NOTES
Splashes of violet and gold run across this wheel-thrown covered jar. Like wood grain, the ridges of its slab-cut lid swirl and swell in a rolling topography. A lifelong advocate for experimental artist communities, potter Karen Karnes made this work during a period of relative isolation at her remote Vermont home and studio. There she built a massive wood kiln, allowing her to push her favored forms—the covered vessel, for one—to new dimensions.
