NOTES
The most common of all the Ottoman domestic embroidered cloths are usually classified as napkins. The grandest napkins were used ceremonially to make presentations to a guest, to serve a dish at the table, or for a guest to use for drying their fingers after washing their hands. In addition to use at the table, napkins were used to cover books or were spread around the room as decoration.
