NOTES
Stieglitz began to photograph around his family's farmhouse on Lake George in the Adirondack Mountains in 1922 after inheriting the property. There he became increasingly experimental, making his celebrated series of cloud tones and patterns. By divorcing clouds from their relationship to the ground and displaying them in different directions, Stieglitz wanted viewers to "become less aware of clouds as clouds" than as graphic equivalents for his inner emotional or spiritual states.
