NOTES
The elegant body of this celadon-glazed censer rests on three feet, each in the form of a leaf. Containers like this were designed to burn incense and would have been topped with a lid. The vessel’s simple, refined silhouette is defined by the three groupings of bowstrings that undulate across the surface. The shape of this tripod censer is thought to have originated from earlier bronze vessels from the Han dynasty (206 BCE–220 CE).
