Notes:
[1] According to the auction catalogue the tazza was previously owned by the late Joseph Desloge, Esq. ["Fine Renaissance Bronzes, Limoges Enamels and Works of Art," Christie's, London, July 18, 1977, lot no. 78].

[2] The enamel was featured in the July 1977 auction but was not sold. See note [1].

[3] According to a letter from James Trigg, he negotiated to purchase the enamel from Christie's on behalf of the Lopatas [letter dated September 20, 1977, SLAM document files]. An invoice addressed to Mr. Lopata from James Trigg dated December 5, 1977 verifies the arrangement [SLAM document files]. When Mr. and Mrs. Lopata gave the enamel to the Museum, Mr. Lopata reconfirmed the circumstances in which they acquired the work [handwritten notes on a letter from the Museum dated July 11, 1989, SLAM document files].

[4] See note [3]. Minutes of the Acquisitions and Loans Committee of the Board of Trustees, Saint Louis Art Museum, October 28, 1988.
