NOTES
This photograph features a wide variety of textures including feathers and fur, a woven basket and loose straw, and a cloth backdrop. The clarity of these textures is a result of the use of a glass negative and the collodion process, which was invented by Frederick Scott Archer in 1851. A glass negative offered sharper and larger images than those printed from paper negatives, and the collodion solution was grainless and colorless, which allowed for high quality duplication.
