Notes:
[1] It is not known when, or from whom Gerson acquired this cast. However, according to a letter dated January 15, 1957 from Gerson to the Kolbe Museum in Berlin-Charlottenburg, Germany, Gerson acquired a number of Kolbe bronzes for his gallery through Alex Voemel (an art dealer in Düsseldorf, Germany), as well as various private sources in the United States [Otto and Ilse Gerson papers, 1933-1980, Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.; photocopy, SLAM document files]. This cast was included in a 1955 show at Fine Arts Associates ["Rodin to Lipchitz." New York: Fine Arts Associates, October 25 - November 30, 1955, cat. 14].

[2] Invoice from Fine Arts Associates dated December 20, 1955 and correspondence between the Museum and Otto Gerson [invoice; letters dated November 17, December 9 and December 15, 1955, SLAM document files]. Minutes of the Administrative Board of Control of the City Art Museum, December 8, 1955 and January 5, 1956.
