NOTES
For the Recuay, the process of making art embodied just as much symbolism as the imagery adorning it. In the object here, unnecessarily complex layering processes evoke the interaction of visible and invisible elements. The vessel received two firings and two types of pigment to create simple, resist-painted designs. The imagery conveys duality through symmetry and repetition.
