NOTES
Since 1980 Fukami Sueharu has been known for abstract, minimalist porcelain sculptures of "blades" and "waves." They are colored with his trademark ice-blue seihakuji glaze, whose color derives from minute quantities of iron in the glaze mixture. Fukami does not tolerate any traces of the production process, which is usually much esteemed in Japanese ceramics. The extraordinary level of perfection in his work has won him numerous international awards.
