Notes:
[1] Two E-mails dated November 21 and November 23, 2005 from Andrea Heesemann at the auction house Karl & Faber to SLAM researcher Sydney Norton indicate that the print was consigned to the auction house by Mr. Efrath, a Munich furrier. Mr. Efrath no longer belongs to Karl & Faber's list of clients. However, according to Ms. Heesemann, it is possible that Mr. Efrath acquired the print from Galerie Günther Franke in Munich [SLAM document files].

[2] See note [1].

[3] E-mail dated November 14, 2005 from Alice Adam to SLAM researcher Sydney Norton indicates that Ms. Adam purchased the print at auction from the Munich auction house Karl & Faber in 1985 [SLAM document files]. See auction catalog ["Kunst: Ölgemälde, Aquarelle, Zeichnungen und Graphik Alter und Neuer Meister." Karl & Faber, Munich, June 14, 1985, lot no. 642].

[4] Per telephone conversation that took place October 21, 2005 between Lucia Tantardini Lloyd, provenance researcher of Prints & Drawings at the Art Institute of Chicago, and SLAM researcher Sydney Norton, this work was owned by the Art Institute of Chicago from 1986 to 1990. In 1990, it was sold as a duplicate to the Saint Louis Art Museum, with Alice Adam, Ltd. serving as agent [SLAM document files].

[4] Invoice dated March 5, 1990 [SLAM document files]; Minutes of the Collection Committee of the Board of Trustees, Saint Louis Art Museum, March 1, 1990.
