NOTES
Stray marks, fingerprints, and smudges in Ida Shoichi’s minimalist prints reveal the artist’s hand and draw attention to the materiality of ink, metal bitten with acid, and textured paper. This print belongs to a series of images representing the meetings of opposing forces published by Crown Point Press in Oakland, California.
Shōichi’s body of work includes ceramics, painting, textiles, papermaking, metalwork, installation art, and various kinds of printing. In creating his artworks, he sought to bring out the unique character of each medium and their interactions with one another.
