NOTES
Storm clouds fill the wide sky, and mountains rise out of the distance in this photograph taken near Idaho’s Craters of the Moon National Monument. The road trip itself is the subject of the image. The destination referenced in the title is not visible, while the artist’s vehicle, a Volkswagen Beetle, appears in the corner as a kind of self-portrait. Mark Klett calls attention to the object qualities of this photograph as well, handwriting the title and date in silver ink and allowing the gelatin emulsion at the bottom right to peel away.
