NOTES
Romeo’s Blues 2 consists of dark blue ovals that appear to float within a hazy light blue field. The opacity of the ellipses contrasts with the translucence of the background. Jerald Ieans achieves this effect by pouring multiple applications of glue over a layer of blue paint, the same color as the ellipses. The glue dries clear and smooth, although variations in its thickness create a mottled atmospheric effect. Through his investigation of color, shape, and materials, Ieans explores the traditions of Minimal and Post-Minimal art.
