NOTES
In this photograph, time seems to stand still as a father playfully throws his child into the air. The child appears to hover in midair, an effect heightened by the prominent horizon line that divides the composition. The photograph was taken during a 10-year project in which photographer Stephen Marc traveled through the U.S., the Caribbean, Europe, and Africa, photographing the legacy of the slave trade.
