NOTES
Brett Weston discovered an abandoned school desk with old-fashioned cast iron legs. He composed a similarly detailed view, with the worn and detached legs attened against a surface of crackling paint. The photographer used a large-format camera to achieve tremendous clarity and detail. The tight composition makes the subject ambiguous and encourage new possible interpretations. The legs of the desk-liberated from their original function-become an abstract sculpture. The dynamic curving forms seem to evoke a small fantastical animal bounding across the shallow space.
