NOTES
In this small painting Franz Ackermann shifts between abstraction and representation. At the center of his curvilinear abstract patterns, Ackermann features miniature depictions of skyscrapers, including a small fragmented map. Travelling from city to city, Ackermann makes drawings of monumental buildings, architectural details, and urban highway arteries. Back in his Berlin studio, the artist creates paintings that transform his memories of such metropolitan sites, fusing them with boldly colored abstraction.
