NOTES
The Arabic inscription on this door knocker states, “Our lord the Sultan, the King, al-Mansur Sayf al-Dunya wa al-Din Qala’un al-Salihi ordered the building of this blessed place.” Qala’un was a Mamluk ruler who constructed palaces and an important mausoleum complex in the capital, Cairo.
