NOTES
The Arabic inscription on this candlestick says, “Glory to our Lord, the lofty King, the Sultan, the magnificent, the wise, the just.” Such inscriptions that do not name a specific individual indicate that the piece was made for sale in the market rather than by the order of a particular patron.
