NOTES
In this lively print, Rembrandt van Rijn illustrated the fierce intensity of a hunt in the lunging lion about to sink its teeth into a fallen horseman, while another man advances to his aid. The artist could have easily removed all the incidental marks that appear throughout the print, and especially at the upper right, but he chose not to; perhaps he felt that the grittiness created by these marks heightened the action and drama of the image.
