[1] Justina G. (Kayser) Catlin was the wife of the sitter, Daniel Catlin (1837-c.1916), a St. Louis businessman and former president of the Museum. The painting was likely in the possession of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Catlin since the time it was painted in 1901.
