NOTES
Cetaka is one of two principal boy attendants of Ācalanātha, a major deity of Vajrayana or “esoteric” Buddhism in Japan. Cetaka assumes the form of a youth with skin the color of a red lotus, his hair tied in five knots. He holds a stylized thunderbolt or vajra in his left hand and a vajra-club (kōngōsho) in his right hand. He is usually shown standing, but in this rare sculptural rendition, he is seated with crossed feet on a stylized cloud.
