NOTES
This is among the first photographs on paper ever made in Germany and represents one of the earliest attempts to photograph a museum collection. Ludwig Belitski produced almost 800 photographs for a series of albums illustrating the Minutoli collection, which had been gathered to encourage excellence in the industrial arts. The Minutoli collection was subsequently dispersed; Belistki's photographs are all that remain of it.

The Saint Louis Art Museum, purchased from Vintage Works, Ltd. (Alexander Novak) [1]

Notes:
The main source for this provenance is a telephone conversation between Alexander Novak and Phillip Prodger, assistant curator, July 29, 2004. According to Mr. Novak, the work was purchased from an unamed dealer in 2002. Also according to Novak, this unnamed dealer purchased the work in May 2001 from an auction at Christie's, London.
