NOTES
The sculptor Antonius Höckelmann used drawings like this to portray an object's connections and interactions to its environment. Intended to be an abstract work, the tangled mass of lines also resembles an intricate and layered root system. Höckelmann, trained as a sculptor, noted his frustration with the slow production and static qualities of his metal sculptures and found a sense of freedom and exploration in drafting on paper.
