NOTES
In 1957, Nitsch etched an incomplete copy of a 17th-century print by Rembrandt of Christ preaching, which was known as the “Hundred Guilder Print” for the exorbitant price it achieved during Rembrandt’s lifetime. Four years later, he threw ink on seven impressions of his etching. He described this as a simple creative act, not an attack on Rembrandt’s art or traditional aesthetics.
