NOTES
Distinctive moccasin styles reflect the wide variety of decorative techniques that exist within Plains communities. Each pair of moccasins contains visual cues that communicate ties to kin, community and the wider cosmos. These moccasins present intriguing Inunaina (Arapaho)-style designs that are believed to illustrate precise meanings. The central line represents the individual path of the wearer, and the two vertical lines connected by a horizontal stripe in the center signifies the individual’s connection to buffalo paths and future success in life.
