NOTES
Imagine the sight of a warrior charging into battle armed with this guncase. The long fringe, blowing horizontally in the wind, would create a spectacular and imposing presence for oncoming enemies. Firearms played a central role in Plains life during the mid–19th century as the primary weapon for protection and for securing food. Gun cases continue to represent valuable items of Plains art today. The quality of the hide and impressive flat overlay stitch beadwork make this Apsáalooke object exceptional.
