NOTES
This object is recognizable as Tsistsistas (Cheyenne) by the elegant use of blue and white beadwork within the main design field, and the subtle addition of yellow, green, and red. Outstanding Tsistsistas objects are regarded among the highest achievements of Plains art. This excellence in distinctive technique and artistry is no more apparent than in this pipe bag. The perfectly tanned hide of the bag is painted a light yellow that gives it a warm glow. The classic Tsistsistas pattern of horizontal beaded bands in alternating colors is repeated and finished with characteristic blue and white.
