NOTES
This composition presents an expansive view of lower reaches of the Yangzi River at the city of Zhenjiang in present-day Jiangsu province, China. Rocky islands rising from the placid water in the foreground are delineated in sharp, precise brushstrokes, while mist-shrouded mountains in the distance emerge from ink wash. Temples and other structures perch perilously on the jagged summits. Inscriptions identify various places, including the Dragon Sojourn Monastery (Longyou si) on Jinshan Island on the right, and Plentiful Sights Tower (Duojing lou) and Sweet Dew Temple (Ganlu si) on the taller peaks to the left.
