NOTES
Celmins’s focus on the bare forms of nature is already evident in this densely layered and expressive drawing completed while she was in art school. The intensity of the close viewpoint, the emphasis on light, shade, and tone, and the hint of a landscape amongst the gestural marks, has much in common with her later compositions.
